Health is a state of optimum physical, mental and emotional well-being where infirmity and illness are totally absent. Our physical and mental condition determines our behavior and the way we cope with different situations. Therefore it becomes very important to maintain a good health status throughout our lives. In fact, most of the leading academic institutions have formulated policies that lay emphasis on the promotion of healthy living.

In order to achieve a healthy lifestyle, a person needs to be physically fit. It does not necessarily mean that one has to go for rigorous exercises and other extreme methods to stay in good health but it actually includes eating the right kind of food, engaging in regular physical fitness activities and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Physical fitness encompasses a variety of activities like aerobics, yoga, dancing, swimming, jogging and walking. These activities keep the body flexible, improves blood circulation, calms the nerves and also reduces the risk of acquiring a host of chronic diseases.

A healthy mental state also entails having a positive attitude towards life. Having an open mind helps in getting rid of negative thoughts and worries and enables you to think clearly and focus on the task at hand. Healthy diets, regular physical fitness, practicing healthy habits and having a positive outlook are some of the key elements that contribute to having a good health status. However, a healthy diet alone cannot ensure that you stay away from all kinds of diseases or illnesses. In fact, it is essential to exercise and get into routines to prevent the onset of chronic diseases like cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and osteoporosis.

In order to keep away from such illnesses, it is essential to take regular medication to treat cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, stroke and some forms of mental disorders like anxiety, bipolar disorder and depression. In addition, if you feel any symptoms of any cardiovascular disease, you should immediately consult your physician. Although you can prevent the onset of these diseases by being physically fit and eating healthy foods, sometimes it is not enough as prevention is not always possible. You can reduce your chances of getting a cardiovascular disease by exercising regularly and being conscious of your weight, blood pressure, cholesterol levels and other health conditions.

Cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, heart disease, influenza and HIV are some of the diseases that you need to be aware of because they are communicable and non-communicable. Cancer is a disease that affects the cells of the body around the torso. In case you contract cancer, you may develop a fever, swollen lymph nodes or even kidney failure. On the other hand, a person with diabetes contracts the disease when his body cannot produce sufficient amounts of insulin.

Non-communicable diseases are also categorized as mental disorders because they affect your ability to think and function normally. Some of them are Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Alzheimers and Parkinson’s disease. Mental health is a state of complete physical, emotional and social well being. You can maintain a good mental health if you exercise regularly, eat healthy food and get regular therapies. An editwatch can help you know your progress in all these aspects and keep you motivated to lead a healthy lifestyle. It also helps you to set short and long term goals.
